The Annual Competitions

Please note, with the pandemic the Club Competitions have not been run since 2019. We intend to have them back for 2023.

Southwell Squash Club runs a number of well established competitions each year.  The Finals are usually held in the first week of May.

The Club Championship

The Club Championship – called the Cedric Best is open to all senior and advanced junior club members. It is a knockout competition typically played from January to April each year. It is a seeded competition with all first round losers being entered into a Plate competition.

There is also a Junior Trophy open to all junior members of the club.

Ladies Championship

The Ladies Knock Out for The Hancock Trophy is open to all lady members. Due to the lower numbers of participants this competition will normally take place from March to April each year.

Veterans

The other major club competition is the Veterans Knockout. This is open to all club members over the age of 45.

From 2013 we decided to run a Supervets competition.  The competition is open to all club members aged 60 and over.

American Handicap

In addition to the knock out competitions we also try to run 2 American Handicap tournaments – one early in the season and one towards the end. These are friendly, social events that take place over a Saturday afternoon with light refreshment at a local hostelry.

You do need a sense of humour to play in the American Tournament. The competition can be fierce and the handicapping outrageous.
